We’ve recently been introduced to experimental Soul/R&B songbird, Malunga, but the reality is she’s been on the grind for a little while. Last year saw here release the critically acclaimed “Never Let Go” which garnered support from Record of the Day, SoulBounce, and Reprezent Radio amongst others. This time she returns with her brand new single, entitled “A.M.” , which was exclusively premiered via Earmilk last week, and already picked up plaudits from Toddla T (BBC Radio 1) and Urban Development.
A melancholy blend of classic R&B sounds mixed with a hint of Hip-Hop flavour sees this slip into the mix alongside the sounds of NAO or Solange quite effortlessly. Malunga’s rich vocals, and captivating melodies complementing the Peter Hakola (Delooze, Makola) produced spacey backdrop, there’s even a nod to the classic Mase (feat Total) – “What you Want” collaboration of yesteryear.
Speaking on the release Malunga says:
Her sound speaks to a sense of nostalgia that we love, and with a forthcoming EP in the works, we’re eagerly anticipating how she evolves in the public arena as she begins to share more of what’s she’s been crafting.
